Salary: HK$18,000–25,000 per month*

 

POSITION OVERVIEW

 

SPCA Hong Kong is seeking responsible and dedicated individuals to join its animal-care team as an Animal Receiving Assistant.

 

The position supports the daily reception and care of animals received by the facility. Responsibilities include assisting with animal intake, basic animal care, maintaining cleanliness, monitoring animal conditions, updating records, and supporting foster and adoption activities.

 

This opportunity is suitable for candidates who have a genuine interest in animal welfare, are patient and responsible, and are comfortable working directly with animals.

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

 

– Receive animals according to established procedures.

– Assist with initial checks and collection of relevant animal information.

– Maintain accurate animal identification and records.

– Provide food and water according to instructions.

– Clean cages, animal rooms, feeding areas, and activity spaces.

– Maintain a clean, safe, hygienic, and comfortable environment.

– Assist with basic animal-care procedures.

– Monitor animals’ physical condition and behaviour.

– Report changes or special care requirements to responsible staff.

– Safely handle and move animals when required.

– Prepare food, bedding, cleaning materials, and other supplies.

– Maintain animal-care equipment and facilities.

– Assist in preparing animals for foster care or adoption.

– Support animal-welfare and care activities.

– Provide basic assistance to visitors within the scope of the role.

– Follow all workplace, hygiene, health, and safety procedures.

– Perform other duties related to animal care and facility operations as required.

 

REQUIREMENTS

 

Previous experience in animal care is an advantage, but candidates without professional experience may also be considered.

 

Applicants should:

 

– Have a genuine interest in animals and animal welfare.

– Be patient, gentle, responsible, and reliable.

– Be comfortable working with cats, dogs, and other animals.

– Be willing to perform cleaning and routine animal-care duties.

– Be able to follow instructions and established procedures.

– Have good communication and interpersonal skills.

– Be physically capable of performing routine care and cleaning duties.

– Be willing to work shifts.

Experience in the following areas may be beneficial:

 

– Pet shops

– Animal shelters

– Pet hotels

– Veterinary clinics or hospitals

– Pet grooming

– Pet boarding

– Animal rescue

– Animal-care services

– Animal adoption centres

 

However, professional experience is not the only consideration. A positive attitude, willingness to learn, sense of responsibility, and ability to follow training and procedures are also important.

 

WORKING ENVIRONMENT

 

This position involves regular, direct interaction with animals and is not limited to animal handling or interaction.

 

Daily duties may include cleaning cages and animal areas, changing bedding, preparing food and water, assisting with animal movement, maintaining records, and following hygiene and safety procedures.

 

Candidates should be comfortable working with animals that may have different personalities, behaviours, backgrounds, and care requirements.

 

TRAINING AND DEVELOPMENT

 

Successful candidates may receive practical training in areas such as:

 

– Safe animal handling

– Animal reception procedures
